L'oreal Micellar Solution

L'oreal Micellar solution is the first of its kind that I have tried. Every beauty blogger and youtuber was raving about it and I wanted to try it!
I wanted to start with a more affordable option than Bioderma or LaRochePosay and as there aren't many drugstore brands at the moment that have micellar waters in their product range I was really happy when L'oreal came out with one.
Micellar water is more gentle than a cleanser but it is supposed to work the same without drying out your skin and at the same time getting rid of all your makeup. Micellar water contains microscopic oil molecules but doesn't leave your skin feeling oily.

My experience with this product is that it does not remove all your makeup, it does leave your skin feeling fresh and clean and doesn't sting your eyes. When I purchased it I was hoping I could just use this product for all my face and this way I wouldn't need eye makeup remover and face makeup remover. When I remove my makeup I want a product that works immediately (a few swipes and I am done). I felt that with this product I had to rub my face for a long time. However, I am not entirely dissappointed with it.

For me, this product comes after I have removed all my makeup and I am just looking to completely get rid of the last traces of makeup, kind of like a toner. I like it because it is alcohol-free and is really gently with my skin. It doesn't smell of anything but it tastes awful! So don't lick your lips after you've removed your lipstick!

This is my personal experience and it doesn't mean that it might not work for you. I have heard other people loving it so you might love it as well.

If you have tried this one and a different one, did you think they work the same? Which one would you recommend?

Cleansers & Face Scrubs

I have noticed I have been only reviewing skin care products and not many makeup products. I do have a few makeup items that I really like and would be reviewing them soon. However, I am aware that I love looking after my skin and I am always on the hunt of new products.

Part of my morning shower involves cleansing my face. In this post I am going to show you the different exfoliators and cleansing products I use. I am going to start off with the soft cleansers.

I use any of these three depending on my mood and how I feel my skin feels.

Purity by Phylosophy (£17.50/240ml)  is a makeup cleanser with a lovely smell, for face and eyes and I use it sometimes when I wear heavy eye makeup. You can use it all over your eyes, it won't sting or burn them! But I love using it in the shower as it really deep cleans my pores.

I have talked about the Olay refreshing face wash (£1.99/150ml) in a previous post, so there is not much to say.  It is cheap and cleanses your face, not like Purity or Checks and Balances from Origins do though. But I like having a drugstore face wash to use between my expensive cleansers. I am thinking of buying a different one though, just because I am getting bored of this one. It is my second bottle and it lasts ages!!

I got Checks and Balances frothy face wash sample from Origins (£18/150ml) a while ago. I got it after buying some presents there. I used it and then forgot I had it. I really really like this face wash. As with purity it deep cleanses your pores and just need a pea size amount for your face.

The next product would be between soft cleansers and face scrubs since you can choose which type of method to use. It is the Wave from Neutrogena that I reviewed in my previous post.

The face scrubs that I am currently using are the No Clogs Allowed! face mask and The Fab Pore, both from my beloved Soap & Glory. They are both amazing and really do a fantastic job!
No Clogs Allowed! (£11/100ml) is quite a novelty product for me as it has this particular characteristic...It self heates!! It is a white paste with tiny blue particles that when rubbed between your hands you can feel it heating up. The heat only lasts for a few seconds until you rub it on your face to make the blue particles dissolve. I usually leave it on for around 4-5 minutes. The texture is not harsh at all like some face scrubs but it leaves your skin very smooth and clean of blackheads.

The Fab Pore (£8/50ml) refines your pores and makes them less visible. It is also targeted for oily problematic skin, even though I have normal/dry skin it doesn't dry me out. The product looks very similar to No Clogs Allowed! However, this one feels a tiny bit thicker and it smells very good! I am really bad at describing scents but I would say this one has a very fresh and clean minty scent whilst the previous one smells a bit citrusy.
Anyway, as with the previous one, you just rub a grape-size dollop onto your skin and leave it between 5-15 minutes. The key ingredients are:
  • Fomes officinalis extract: a mushroom extract that helps tighten pores.
  • Salicylic acid: which loosens up the dead cells that contribute to pore clogging.
  • Kaolin: or clay, which sops up extra oil on your skin and smoothes your skin surface.
  • Vitamins E and C: antioxidants.

I find the two products are quite similar and even though they both work, I think I will only purchase one when I run out since the results are more or less the same. So there you go, here are the products that I use to cleanse my face in the shower.

Which one is your favourite cleanser? Have you tried any mentioned in this post?

Wave Power Cleanser by Neutrogena

I purchased Wave Original Vibrating Power-Cleanser by Neutrogena a few months ago. I was not too sure about it but it was only £1.99 and I'm always interested in trying anything that says will deep clean your face!

It consists of a device (or wave) with a flat rough surface which is where you put the pad. The pads have already product in them even though they are completely dry. Each one is for one use only. You just have to wet the pad (I like to rub it whilst under the tap to create more foam) turn the device on and press it onto your face moving it in circular motions. Apparently the vibrations of the wave help remove dirt, oil and make up.  After just one use my face felt really smooth and clean.

The package with the device comes with 14 deep clean pads and 1AA battery. After that you can buy the pads separately. There are two options: Deep Clean (left) and Blackhead Eliminating pads (right), each one comes with 30 units and the plastic rough surface, as they tend to get clogged up with the fibers of the pads (£0.99/each box).

I quite enjoy using this product and I like that I can choose between a soft and a rough cleansing option. It is also more comfortable as you don't get your hands dirty with product.

What do you think about this product? Would you try it?

My favourite shower cream!

I have never been one to pay much attention to shower gels or creams before. I didn't really care much about the brands and would pick up any that was on offer, that was until a friend gave me a The Body Shop gift box in coconut. You know...the one that comes with body butter, soap, shower cream and a bath lily.

I am not the biggest fan of coconut, I don't like the fruit and I dislike strong coconut smells. Needless to say I have never owned any product that smelled of coconut. (That's how much I disliked it!) However, these products have a very light smell and it is actually quite pleasant! My absolute favourite is the Coconut shower cream. It is a soap free product so it is better as it won't remove the natural oils from your skin.

This product has thicker consistency than a shower gel (after all it is labelled as a cream) but it lathers beautifully and leaves your skin really soft and smooth! That is why I love it, with other shower creams I would feel my skin a bit tight after the shower but with this one I can skip the body butter. Apart from that, the scent left on my skin is not too strong so I can still wear perfume.

I really like this product and I am already finishing my second bottle. I recommend it if you have dry skin and don't have the time to put on moisturiser after the shower.

Which is your favourite Body Shop fragance? Do you have any favourites from The Body Shop?

SUPERCAT - Extreme Eyeliner Pen

Following my current obsession with Soap&Glory I wanted to review the SUPERCAT eyeliner.  I purchased it at Boots after my Maybelline Master Precise's tip broke and I couldn't use it anymore, so I was really happy with the Supercat eyeliner as the tip feels quite stiff as opposed to the soft one from Maybelline.

I love how it is really black and matte, it is also really easy to apply as the felt tip easily glides onto the skin, so you can achieve any cat-eye look (really thin or bold wing ). However, there are a couple of things that weren't to my liking.

1.- The smell of it reminds me of those big permanent markers that we used at school! I was a little bit sceptical the first time thinking it would sting my eye (it didn't) or that it wouldn't be right to apply onto my eyelid.

2.- The time it takes to dry is a bit long (longer than gel eyeliner) for my taste so I have to be careful not to touch my eye or I'll ruin my makeup.

Gel is my favourite type of eyeliner as I think the result looks cleaner, however it takes me more time to apply so I choose liquid when I am in a hurry.

I think the SUPERCAT is a good liquid eyeliner, it does the job and is not expensive at £6, so it is definitely worth a try! Also, I love the packaging!

Have you tried the SUPERCAT? Did you find the smell a bit weird too?

Dr.Organic Moroccan Argan Oil Restorative Treatment Conditioner

I recently started using hair masks in my hair routine (about time, right?) I had always limited to shampoo and conditioner, that's it. It was after a hairdresser told me my hair was a little bit dry that I went to purchase one.

I try, as much as I can, to use products that have natural ingredients or have the least dangerous components. However, it is hard because they are either pricey or the things that I like aren't natural and organic. A few months ago I went to Holland&Barrett and decided to purchase Dr. Organic, Moroccan Argan Oil Restorative Treatment Conditioner, which is a natural product. It doesn't have sulphates or parabens. You can find a list of the ingredients here.

The website says it is: A bioactive hair and scalp treatment. In combination with our proprietary blend of organic oils and extracts we have formulated a super rich concentrated conditioning balm, that instantly envelopes the hairs keratin fibres with nourishing phospholipids and essential fatty acids. Dramatically nourishing and repairing damaged hair, increasing core strength to protect against breakage. Helps seal in vital moisture; damaged hair, dull hair, dry hair and fly away hair.

The product comes in a small cilinder container with a folding lead which makes it really easy to get the product with your hands as well as being able to completely use it all up. It has a thick consistency and smells amazing! I have long hair so I distribute the product from the middle part of my hair till the ends and leave it between 5 - 10 minutes.
I use it 1 or 2 days per week and the result is very smooth hair, really easy to detangle and smelling amazing. I am definitely going to purchase it again as it did leave my hair more moisturised and did notice a difference. It is not a cheap product at £7.99/200ml but it is worth it since you only use it a couple times per week.

I am sorry I don't have any pictures as I used this product a few months ago, so I have used the one on their website. I really liked this hair treatment and I am looking forward to try more of their products.

Neutrogena Eye MakeUp Remover Pads

The Ultra-soft eye makeup removers have made it so easy for me to cleanse my face before bed I needed to do a blog post. Therefore, I highly recommend them! They are amazing!!

They are circle shaped (2.60in or 6.6cm diameter), just like the usual cotton pads that you can find in any drugstore. However, these ones are really really soft and are also damp due to containing some cleansing liquid so they remove make up effortlessly.

I usually only use one (one side for each eye) but if I am wearing heavy makeup I would use two pads. What I do is press it gently against my eye for a few seconds so it dissolves all the makeup and then I wipe it over my eyelid. If I'm using black eyeliner and lots of mascara I have to rub a tiny bit over my lashes, but nothing too harsh as they are so soft they won't leave your eyes red. I have really sensitive eyes and they don't sting or irritate my eyes at all, even if I use them on my water line!

According to the package they remove every trace of make up even waterproof mascara, they don't leave any oily residue and are safe for sensitive and contact lens users.

This product really does what it says, you don't feel your eyelids oily but moisturised. But I normally use a wipe after that to remove my face make up and finish with a toner or micellar water, so I remove any residue that is left.

They come in a small plastic container and has 30 soft pads. If you live in the UK you can buy them at Savers for £1.99.

Have you tried these eye makeup remover pads? Do you know of any other good eye makeup remover product?

Soap & Glory: Kick Ass Concealer - Review

I have tried many different concealers and I am still on the hunt for "the one" so when I saw the Kick Ass concealer from Soap&Glory I had to try it.

The packaging is really cute and is small enough to carry in your bag.  It has 3 different products for 3 different steps. The three-piece flaw camouflage kit has two concealers (under eyes and face) and a setting powder, as well as a little puff to apply it. As you can see the concealers are on the bottom part and the setting powder is on the top side. It also has a small mirror which you can see in the last picture.

There are two shades to choose from: light and medium. Light being the one I chose. I have tried both concealers for my under eye area and both do a great job, the one for the under eyes has a pink undertone but I found it works for me, even though I have olive skin (maybe not so much anymore as I have been trying to avoid getting sun on my face for years) and brightens up your eyes. The face concealer is the one with a more yellow undertone and it works well too without brightening your under eye area. I  use this one when I want to apply a liquid highlighter.

The coverage of both is medium to full, as they do cover my dark circles really really well. The consistency is really creamy so it is easy to apply after I have put my eye cream. I would recommend applying it after a moisturiser or it might be a bit difficult to blend. I have also found that it might crease a bit if you don't apply the setting powder.

Overall it is a really great product, it has two concealers and a setting powder all in one box! Perfect for travelling! However their range of shadows is quite small (Light and Medium), so I would suggest trying it out at the shop first. It retails at a price of £10.

Soap & Glory Haul

Hey everyone,

I know I have not been good at keeping this blog updated, I don't know if anyone reads me anyway. But I have been quite busy and I am still not used to blogging as part of my routine yet.
I definitely have been wanting to blog about hauls and do reviews of products I have tried and maybe an OOTD...but I am still working on the latter as I am not too keen on having photos of myself on the net...we will see though.

Anyhow, I have recently done some shopping and have also tried some products that I want to do a review on, so hopefully I will be able to do more posts.

I recently went to Boots for the Summer Event and got these Soap&Glory products among some other bits and pieces. I had wanted to try some of their skincare products and the Glow All Out Luminizing Radiance Face Powder, they had also 3 for 2 that's why I ended up with 6 products (I think the 3 for 2 promotion is still going on if you want to check it out ).

Sorry for the quality of the photo, I didn't bring a camera where I am at the moment so I had to use my boyfriend's iphone and if you add that to the fact that I am not a photografic genius...there's the result.

I will be reviewing all the products in the next posts.

Which is your favourite S&G product?

My Morning Skin Care Routine

Hi everyone,

Today I am going to write about my skincare routine in the mornings. I usually wash my face in the shower with the Olay Refreshing Face Wash. It is a good and inexpensive product that gets rid of any dirt and oil.

After having washed my face I use 'Let the good times roll' from Lush, which is my favourite face scrub ever. Unfortunately it was only a seasonal item that Lush released for the Christmas period, so it is not available anymore. It has popcorn bits and smells amazing!

This product gets rid of blackheads and leaves my skin feeling really smooth. Because it is a face scrub I don't use it every day so the days that I don't I wash my face with Purity from Philosophy as I feel it cleanses a bit deeply than the Olay face wash.
Now it is the turn of serums, eye creams and moisturisers. First I apply Kiehl's Clearly Corrective White Hydrating Moisture Emulsion since it is a serum and has a lighter consistency which is absorbed more rapidly. This particular serum is a skin clarifying and helps correct the skin tone; also known as hyperpigmentation caused by the sun exposure.
As for eye cream, I have been using two Kiehl's samples (of course!) for the last couple of months. One of them was the Creamy eye treatment with Avocado and the one that I am currently using is the Abyssine eye cream+. I was really excited to use the Avocado eye cream as I have read so many good things about it and is quite popular. Unfortunately I did not like it that much, I felt it was not as moisturising as I thought. Maybe the sample was not very big so I did not have enough time to love it or the sample could have been old? On the other hand, I really like the Abyssine eye cream, it does help with dark circles and it is definitely more moisturising than the Avocado one.
I don't know if I will purchase it though because it is a bit pricey and I would like to experiment with more affordable eye creams.

And my usually last product is the product mentioned in my previous post the Ultra Facial Cream from Kiehl's as well. I will not mention any details since I did a review for it.

On days when my skin still feels a bit dry I like to use the Erborian BB Cream. I have recently purchased it so I still need to experiment more with it. I like the fact that it has SP25 and gives a little bit of colour to my skin.

I hope you found this post interesting and feel free to tell me what your favourite products are since I am always on the hunt of trying new products!

Review - Kiel's Ultra Facial Cream -

Hey guys,

this time I am going to talk about my favourite moisturiser so far. It is the Ultra Facial Cream from Kiehl's.

I have tried many moisturisers since I first started using face creams, back when I was 13 years old, and I have never stuck to one. I have normal/dry skin and when using drugstore moisturisers I felt they didn't do good enough for my skin.

Ultra Facial Cream does what no other has done in moisturising terms. According to Kiehl's, it is formulated to work in harsh weather conditions. It has Antarcticine, a Glycoprotein extracted from microorganisms that live in sea glaciers, with an ability to protect skin from cold temperatures; as well as Imperata Cylindrica, a plant from the Australian dessert which possesses water retention properties in dry conditions.

UFC has a thick consistency in the jar but it feels very lightweight on the skin, so you can put on as much as you need as it won't feel heavy. Another thing that I like is that it doesn't have a strong scent at all, as I think it has no perfume or fragrance added.

I love this moisturiser because my skin feels hydrated during the whole day after having just applied it in the morning. It is more expensive (£24 for 50ml) than a drugstore product but it is completely worth it.

I really like Kiehl's products so I will talk about them in another post.

Have you tried UFC?

Review: The Body Shop Vitamin E Eye Cream

Hi everyone,

I have always liked The Body Shop body butters and I was in need of an eye cream so I thought I could get one there. The lady at the shop suggested this was the best one for me and that it worked wonders on her so I got it.

It claims to " help reduce the appearance of fine lines, puffiness and dark circles". I get noticeable dark circles if I don't rest enough.

After using for 4 months I am very dissappointed as it does nothing on dark circles. I haven't got puffy eyes so I can't comment on that. It does feel refreshing when you put it on though and my eye area did feel smoother and softer. However, after 5 months of using it it started to smell weird, even though it is supposed to last at least 6 months.

Needless to say, I won't be repurchasing it as it is a bit pricey for what it does.

Have you tried it? Did it work well on you?
